As the title says, is there any purpose to it?

I used to have Magician always running in the background on my old pc with an 850 EVO and rapid mode going.

However this drive apparently isn't compatible with rapid mode. As such, is there any point to having Magician run in the background, or is it just wasting resources?

I read it was good to use it to install the latest firmware, however I don't see where to do that.

Solution
rapid made ssd run 2x faster, NVME are 5 or more times faster out of the box.

RAM's max read is under10k, and some PCIe 4.0 NVME do 5k now, so you can't double their speed using ram drive.
only to update firmware

otherwise, no, not really

firmware updates will show on the Drive Details screen if there is one

870 evo or 970 Evo plus?
the 870 plus doesn't seem to exist

if its a 970 evo plus, rapid doesn't work with nvme as they are fast enough without it.

I'm of the opinion if it works and you're satisfied with the performance, then don't bother with updates or the even the utility software. Firmware updates exist only to fix corner cases and there's really no reason to have the utility software running since it's not going to magically improve performance.

Ok cool... so I may as well disable the program then... thanks for the info.

its your choice, i let it run in background but its not really necessary

you won't find out about updates if its not running all the time.
