Is sata express compatible with U.2 SSDs?

Is sata express compatible with U.2 SSDs? They use the same connector and support some of the same protocols in addition to both being pci express based. I've also heard that you can connect a sata express drive (if such a thing existed) to a U.2 port on a motherboard. The question is, can you connect a U.2 drive to sata express?

They use the same connector.

only in regards to supporting a sata drive, so yes a sata based drive will work in either but a pcie based u.2 drive will not work or fit into a Sata Express slot.
