Solution
It is true that Seagate has a higher failure rate than a couple other manufacturers, but I've never had an issue with them. Some people swear by Hitachi and the last 2 Hitachi drives I had failed within 6 months lol. WD is prob the best, they are slightly more expensive than the rest, but you get what you pay for IMO. I have 2 Seagate drives I've been running for well over 3 years, a 1 and a 3 TB drive, and they haven't skipped a beat. You run a risk of failure no matter what brand you buy, that is why it is so important to backup your important data just in case.
Where did you hear that they were bad??? WD and Seagate are the big two and are pretty much interchangeable when it comes to basic sata desktop drives. I always get whatever is on sale at the time. Now it happens that when I buy WD are always about $5 lower when I buy, but i've seen it the other way around plenty of times.

Personally I like both seagate & wd. Recently I purchased two, one TB drives of each and both were seriously defective and not usable. An RMA of both took care of the problem.

From what I have read, companies and corporations that monitor their drive failures report that seagate has the highest failure rate. Hitachi is on top with the least failures and WD is second best.

They are both great and trash. Just depends on the batch and whatnot. I have seen more failures with western digital, but who knows. My seagate that says it was going to die lasted another three years in a raid 0 that was used every day.
