Hello, just bought Seagate Backup Plus 1TB external drive and was reading the features of Seagate Dashboard backup software and some related threads to it on this forum. If I don't need to have automated periodic backups nor system images backups or even manual custom full backups(as I've seen is possible with Dashboard) at all done to my files (I know, what would be the point of buying this specific drive in the first place, but regardless of that), can I use this solely as an external drive to transfer specific folders of interest from one computer to another and to store certain folders in it temporarily, without installing and using Seagate Dashboard? Dunno if maybe file transfer is faster when using the software.

Seagate Dashboard (Free with purchase of Seagate HDD ), is a 'somethng is better than nothing' type application where the software is a upgrade from the beginning of version 1.0.

IF you can keep track of what files you copied, and what files are important to you. Then the applicaton is not really helpful.its a one button solution, where multiple steps will accomplish the same.

As your thread asks will it be faster?

hardly, since it uses the same i/o calls to transfer the data to the hdd

it takes additional steps to make a list of files, check it twice , then staart coying, and verify the copy has finished, then complete a log file,

vs,

drag & drop.
