Inside my power options I set my Proccesor power management, Maximum processor state to 99% and Minimum processor state to 99% so my CPU doesn't overheat. Is this safe? I have a desktop PC, my CPU is the i7 7700k

But my pc runs cooler now, i set it to 99 because i heard it disables Turbo Boost which heats up your system.

My CPU cooler is the Cryorig H7, and when the ambient temps in my room are about 30 C then my cpu goes to about 75-80 C while gaming, when the ambient temps are about 20 C the its stays at about 65-75 C

good cooler

up to 80c is as far as i would feel comfortable too---though it can go higher

other options if you have a very high ambient temperature

see if you can under volt the cpu--might be able to keep the turbo if can use a little less voltage

or disable hyperthreading when gaming

or delid the cpu--intel used rubbish tim under the heatspreader again

I only play CSGO, so i will try to disable HT, but can you please tell me how do i change the voltage, do i just change it manually or something, im new to this, i know my way around the BIOS but i dont know how to chyange the voltage, and how low can i go? My voltage is 1.25 V right now on 4.2 GHz (stock), My Motheboard is the Gigabyte Z270 Gaming K3

yes you can just change it manually--either using motherboard software--but doing it in the bios is better

disabling hyperthreading should drop it maybe 10c any way so might not need to

each cpu is different--but just dropped my 7700k to default

with turbo on so 4.5ghz mine is at 1.2v

never tried under volting mine as on custom water cooling so never needed to

and ambient here very rarely would get to 30c as well

But where do i find this option? Is there an option colled Vcore:. in BIOS? and then i just change it? Is it as simple as that? And do you recommend to run prime95 after i undervolt ?

each bios is different but yes something like vcore

i dont use prime95 i just test with heavy gaming and the stuff i usually do--prime95 is much more stressful than every day use

sorry got to go now but will check this thread later when i get back see how you got on

Ok so i have went to my bios and changed the (DVID) offset voltage to -0.055 and stress tested using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility for 20 minutes and no BSOD and temps reached max 78 C at 100% load so it is good for now. My Voltage is 1.165 V.

Yeah it's cooler in games, I turned off HT and the temperatures dropped drastically but the performance was worse 😛. BTW, in the near future I will be getting the Dark Rock 3 air cooler, (Not the PRO version), and the Phanteks Eclipse P400S case for better air flow. What do you think about these decisions.

shame the performance took a hit a lot of games dont need the extra cores/threads and it makes a big temp difference

i love phanteks cases had the primo using the luxe just now--cant go wrong with a phanteks case in my opinion

the dark rock 3 is very good just be aware of ram clearance issues if your ram has high heat spreaders

and it comes pretty close to the rear of the gpu in some motherboards if i remember right

I have this ram: https://www.morele.net/pamiec-corsair-vengeance-lpx-ddr4-8gb-2x4gb-3000mhz-cl15-black-cmk8gx4m2b3000c15-764771/

do you think it will be an issue?

80 is way high for a CPU, you need to shut it down, take the cooler off, and check the thermal paste. Minimum state should be as low as it'll go, maximum should be 100%. Telling it to idle at 99% will only make it run hotter, not colder.

It's ok for an i7 7700k, this chip runs hotter. Intel said for the optimal life span to keep it below 75 C.

I looked over a Tom's Hardware test of that CPU and while it does seem to run rather hot for an Intel CPU, it still shouldn't hit 80. Have you got that new cooler and case yet? If so, and it's still running around 70 degrees, make sure you applied the thermal paste correctly; if not, it should get even cooler once you get those, possibly even to the point where you could return the voltage to normal levels without worrying.

toms didnt test the cpu with a 30c ambient temperature did they?
