Is Skylake non-K overclocking still possible?

Hey, I have an i3 6100 with h110 board, but I plan on buying msi z170 a pro for overcloking this cpu. During recent months i have heard that non k oc became harder/imppossible. Is that true?
BTW is it worth getting 3000+ mhz ddr4 ram speed for non k cpu?

Solution
I spent some time trying to OC my 2400 MHz RAM with an i3-6100 and a GA-Z170M-D3H. I could get it to 2666 MHz without touching voltage, but I found I couldn't increase frequency/decrease timings from there, no matter what I did to voltage. Not sure if that was because of the CPU, or simply because I didn't buy a high speed kit.
Yup, it still works. Although, if you already have a mobo, I don't know if it's worth buying a whole new Z170 board. Regarding the RAM, I'm not sure. I guess it depends on how much a kit like that would cost you.

thanks, the ram would be 3000 mhz only for 45 bucks (2x4gb) so its a good deal. I just heard somewhere the non k cpus have a problem with super fast ram.
