Is SLI/CrossfireX necessary for One monitor 1920x1080 for Max settings?

Should i get 1 $500 GPU or 2 $250 GPU's for this particular setup?

Ok, I'll most likely get a i5-3570K to go with that & call it the day with 8GB RAM.

I would go for the 780..With the 290x im not to fond of their drivers or crossfire and their solution still needs alot of work..With sli i havent seen any micro stuttering or any issues so far and i would recommend it have a look at the link below
