Is Socket FM1 worth it?

I am thinking of getting a cheap motherboard bundle (Link), and the motherboard it includes uses Socket FM1. I simply need to know whether this is still worth getting, or whether it is a little too outdated.

Well, depends upon your needs Sir. I just bought and build a FM1 PC for a family member with very limited needs. I took a A4-3400 with a A75M-DS2 board, 4GB of AMD Entertainment RAM and a 350W Antec PSU. I bought those parts for very, very few money and the PC satisfy my family member's needs.

So it all really depends upon your needs. If its browsing the web and watching youtube then an FM1 APU system could be build cheap and would work. I can recommend installing Linux as the OS.

[strike]These components however are discontinued and are no longer in production, thus making their presence scarce.[/strike] edit: just saw your link. Looks like an alright deal, granted that you are not looking for a gaming rig.

Ah. I probably should have mentioned that I was going to use this for a low-budget gaming rig.

Don't expect to play the AAA titles out today. If you do want to play games like BF4 and Crysis 3, get an FM2+ cpu and motherboard, like the Athlon 860k or the A10-7850k apu.

What if I added a nice graphics card (like a radeon R7 240)? Do you think I'd be able to get playable framerates on medium (or, if really neccessary, low) settings?

Tell me your budget, Sir. And tell me which games you would like to play. Then I will suggest something.

Okay, I think I've figured this out. I'm going to buy this bundle, along with a dedicated graphics card, then upgrade it over time if needed. It shouldn't be too much of a problem, though, as I'm upgrading from an LGA 775 motherboard with a Pentium E5200 and 2GB RAM.

What resolution and refresh rate is your montior. An r7 240 is slow for 1080p.
