Hello,

The RAM in my laptop is 4GB SODIMM 204-pin 533mhz, so I guess it is DDR2? I will have to double check when I get home tomorrow.

My MoBo supports up to DDR3 1333mhz so I'm looking to upgrade to 4GB DDR3 1333mhz.

The question I have is, is the SODIMM 204-pin form factor a universal size? I see adverts saying 'Fits Macbook pro' 'Fits Samsung Laptops' etc. are these sticks modified at all or just being Marketed to fit those devices when infact they'll fit any device that uses the 204pin SODIMM form factor?

So could I buy a set that 'Fits Macbook Pro' and they'd fit my Toshiba?

Thanks,
Ryan.

Solution
as long as it for a pc laptop you be fine. mac memory may have diffrent chips on it and may not work right in a pc motherboard.
the pin is the same for laptop ram and it for desktop as long as it ddr3 or ddr2.

Hi Smorizio,

I've already used the crucial tool and it said it's SODIMM 204-pin DDR3 1333mhz, the point I am making is what you're describing to do, I've found some cheap sticks on eBay but it is marketed as Mac Book Pro ram, I am wondering if 204-pin is universal or not.

Thanks for your reply though,
Ryan.
