Why not buying an 1150 or am3+ motherboard if it lacks perfomance? Very cheap boards, cheap CPU's and ram (even more budget oriented if you have ddr3 ram).
Just to add , bigger risk is to really overclock your CPU by a good motherboard since youre putting more voltage. By taping 2 pins or one it really wont damage. Ive done it on 3 boards soo far and still 3 works without issue but the tape mod didnt work for me since i can OC on motherboards. It only works wizh as i said OEM motherboards like dell and hp, for others im not quite sure.
I was doing even bios mods for all 3 boards, i just bricked one out of 6 since it was bugged bios 775dual-vsta (RIP
Define "cheap", I am long term sick, with no government support, only my wifes Minimum wage coming in, and no income support due to an ongoing HMRC issue (which I REALLY hope to get sorted this year); and the PC is my 5 y/o's.
I have looked at the 1150 boards, but the cheapest viable option for the cpu is still best part of £100, plus the cost of the board.
The PC was made from scrap/spare parts, and copes with everything she wants very well, however I love to tinker.
Basically, when I can afford an upgrade, she gets the old part; total cost to build her PC was initially £25 (cpu and new cooler), however I splurged £80 last year for an "Elsa Blue" DS Cube case for it (Christmas present).
Its biggest lack is affordable DDR2 4GB modules; the cheapest I can find are in the £50-£100 range, so she is stuck with only 4GB of RAM
If the RAM situation becomes an issue, I do have a spare AMD A10 board and cpu, but for now the xeon kicks ass.
