I recently upgraded to the Ryzen 2700X.
As TechyinAZ stated - the 9700K outclasses it for games/apps that require raw clock speed.
This is by quite a huge margin too and considerable if raw clock speed is your focus.

Games wise -

In GTA V, Battlefield V and 1, The Division 2 my Ryzen 2700X averages around 50% - 60% workload using MSI Afterburner to display this.
So certainly these games are not restricted by this CPU at all.
My GPU is an RTX 2070 and this goes from 75 - 95% in these games all running at 4K apart from GTA V which I run at 2560 X 1440 as there is no 60 FPS option for 4K in my options.
My monitor is a 60hz on too so beyond 60 FPS performance isn't something I can comment on.

So it depends on individual games as to whether or not they are more CPU or GPU dependent.
Battlefield 1 & V utilise the extra cores too so hence them only needing to run at 3/4 speed in some games with the Ryzen.

In fact out of curiosity I put Windows into Power Saving Mode in the Power Options which restricts the CPU to a maximum speed of 2200 MHZ and both Battlefields ran fine but GTA V slowed down.

For raw power the 9700K is a long way ahead of the 2700X if it's that you specifically need.
