Is the asus gtx 760 directCU II Bad?

I am looking to buy this card but in research i have found a good amount of people who have had this card die soon after getting it or it catching fire in some cases. I am very interested in buying this to upgrade from my gtx 550 ti so i wanted to hear from people who have possibly had any sorts of problems with this card and people who have had this card for a while and its still running great. I did notice that some people have had their asus gtx 760 replaced many times and it keeps dieing so is it possible it is a problem with their setup not the card itself? Is it normal for graphics cards to have a certain amount DOA or defective over time? What other non-reference cards would you recommend (still the gtx 760)?

I can't say anything about that card, but I wouldn't consider a GTX 760 seeing a R9 280 performs better and costs less.

Not bad, but it's not high end. If you're buying around Q1 2015 Nvidia is releasing a GTX 960, which will be noticeably faster.

I would rather stay with nvidia, just a personal preference thing
