if using the Asus - Rog Crosshair VI Extreme mobo with the ryzen 5 2600 does it need a bios update prior to be able to use the cpu?

the X370 boards only NEED an update to run the APUs.

That board will run a 2600 out of the box however you should update the BIOS as it may add support for RAM and several security fixes.
