Is the best CPU for under £150 the AMD FX8350?

Get Intel i5 4460 If you didn't buy the MOBO yet, or if you already have one which supports 990fx chip-set then buy 8350

For gaming that 4460 is definitely better. If you do a lot of rendering or other workstation-like tasks the 8350 would be a better choice.

so from what i'm gathering there both decent but the i5 is slightly better? I know its single thread perfomance is better but its only 4 cores?

i5 is far better in single core dependent games but almost similar performance with multi core dependent games,

bottom line:
there will be no future upgrades with amd

Almost all games use only one to four cores, so those extra cores (which aren't full cores anyway, a lot of components are shared between two cores) will sit idle. And since core for core Intel's cores are much faster you'll end up with better performance with the i5.

This is also why I'd recommend the 8350 if you're building a workstation. In that case you'll actually use all 8 cores, making it faster than the 4460.
