So i am on the way to buy my first pc build ever and i wanted to know what PSU to buy. Now i already got an awesome answer saying that you shouldnt buy the CX series PSUs from Corsair however all the other series from Corsair works just well. People say that the CX PSUs are not good build and they attent to die pretty quickly and that there build quality is not that great. I dont know myself if there any good but ofc it makes me uncomfortable. However i see alot of people on youtube who really love them and actually RECOMMEND them in gaming builds.

So my question(s) is; Is the CX any good, is it good quality? is it trustworthy? is it good performance? basically would you guys recommend them in pc build?

If not, what are some awesome PSUs on the market? and again good quality, performance, trustworthy and wont die so quickly.

I am all open for ideas and questions so feel free to do so :)

Cheers guys 😉

The CX are budget-series PSUs. They might be decent in the short term, but I wouldn't expect high reliability or consistency with them as compared to the TX or HX series from Corsair. If you're gonna shop a Corsair PSU, get a TX or HX series. You won't regret it.

Other great companies to buy from are XFX, PC Power and Cooling, Coolermaster V-series are all good PSUs. I'm sure someone else here with more expertise can chime in.

Edit: As firo40 mentioned, seasonic is a great brand to go with too, ironically, many of the other PSU makers use Seasonic designs for their PSUs.

Well as you could see from my parts i actually only need just under the 400W, and yes i would go for the TX or HX series the only problem is i only see them at 650W or higher, now maybe some of you would say that would be a good idea to get a little bit more Wattage for a future SLI or something i just find i a bit unnesesary or am i wrong, i am a totally computer noob and really dont know have just been looking out for the 550W bracket.

And in that bracket i only found CX series and then ofc the XFX 550pro

CX-series are not good, but not bad either. If you use a scale from 1 to 10 Seasonic/XFX would be 9-10. Bad psu's (600 watt for $30, stuff like that) would be 1-4 and CX-series would be 6-7. I would buy them though, because you don't need a top notch psu that much. It should just perform good and last 4-5 years.

You do realize that a 550W and a 650W PSU will both deliver 400W if that's what your parts need, right? That is, you still consume the same number of watts from the wall and still pay the same electricity bill, regardless of the number of watts written on the PSU. That number is a "maximum number it can deliver without blowing up". The higher the better.

What aevm said. It's better to have the higher watts. Also, the PSU is more efficient in its power delivery when you give it more headroom. I'd say get a 650W one at minimum if you're worried about price, that way you can add more storage or components later, and switch out your motherboard to one that supports SLI (either 8x/8x or 16x/16x on your PCIE lanes) if you're planning to go that route anytime in the future.
