You don't need 4 sticks of RAM, but only going with 2 sticks defeats the purpose really. It depends what you're doing though whether you would see any benefits if you did go for quad channel.

It is, I think.
Go to the corsair ram configurator and enter your motherboard.
You should see your kit on the supported list.
G.skil has a similar app.
For quad channel operation, you will want a 4 stick kit.
But, a 4 stick kit will be more expensive than a 2 stick kit of equal capacity.

You can use single channel, dual channel or quad channel with X99 motherboards.
