Question Is the CPU i5 6500 compatible with following motherboards

Is the intel i5 6500 cpu compatible with either of these motherboards, since they both have LGA 1151 socket :

• Asus TUF B360 - Plus Gaming DDR4
• Asus ROG STRIX B250H GAMING

If not, what would you recommend, my budget is 100 dollars.

1st one: No. The 300-series boards are LGA 1151 v2 - the v2 is omitted for some dumb reason. It's confused quite a number of people.

2nd one: Yes.

A B250, yes....(supports 6th and 7th gen CPUs; the 6100, 6400, 6500, 6600, 6700, etc., are 6th gen; ignore 6x00 CPUs above 6700 numerically, different socket!)

B360, no.....(supports 8th and 9th gen CPUs)

The R5-2600 is only about $10 more ($119) but worlds ahead in everything...especially gaming, where the 4c/4t design of the 6500 has been struggling with inadequate core/thread count for 2.5 years....
