Hi I was wondering if the Gtx1080 founders is better in performance than the regular one and if it was worth the upgrade?

Solution
Founders Edition is the new fancy term Nvidia calls the reference design cards. and nope, it doesnt perform better than non FE cards, and as turkey stated, they dont come with a great cooler and suffer from thermal throttling. and not only that they also have less features compared to board partner cards. long story short better of buying something like an MSI Gaming X 8G GTX 1080 than any of the FE card.

no. Reference=stock/default. It's the stock default setup for the card. The aftermarket ones will have better coolers and better factory overclocks and/or more headroom for overclocking.

Also as turkey3_scratch said in this case the reference cards are actually being sold for more than the aftermarket cards cost. Nvidia is basically ripping off all the people buying the card on day one.
