hey all I got what I thought was a heck of a deal on a new gaming pc from last year that someone had ordered on line and it got "lost" and when it was found was put on sale for 90 bucks< org. 500 its got an AMD FX 8100 8 core proc. with a GeForce gt610 graph. card now im new to pc gaming and building have some exp not a lot I just don't know if this will be powerful enough to run the latest game titles im sure the cpu is but everything else im not sure it also has 8 gig ram as well

Solution

EDIT: Shorter Answer , Yes GDDR5 Memory on any GPU will work with that FX 8100 . Most Modern processors will work with DDR3 SDRAM (System memory) ,
Pretty much any decent GPU uses GDDR5 Memory, There are some DX10 GDDR3 GPUs like the GTX 275 or HD 4850 which are...

They have a 610 because the amd fx series does not have a built in gpu on the processor so they need some sort of gpu to allow for a display. So they went with dirt cheap that will allow for everyday computing. The 610 would not be good for any modern game and you would be lucky to get it to run DOTA or WOW or league of legends. I would recommend a 650 or 750 or better if you want to play some of the more serious games.

The GPU will hardly run any thing it is worse than the latest Intel integrated graphics. Get a good PSU (you did not mention it) and then at least a GTX 960 for comfortable gaming performance @1080p. For higher resolution get the 970.

Nice and easy answer . No. Graphics cards at the lowest tier usually make no sense to buy at their price points, even 90 can get you a better card used, Much Better or wait till you have enough for a better performing graphics card. The sweat spot is generally 110 -140 for low to mid tier gpus. I'd say if your strapped for cash then go with a new R7 260x , AMD is trying to get rid of their Stock so you may get almost as cheap as that GT 610. which is just a GT 520, and the GT 430 smokes them both.

Note: I know your system is good enough and the FX octa core processors can generally give a good gaming experience, especially when overclocked. The GT 610 just does not have the horse power for 3d gaming. I tried some games on similar GT 420 (48/4/4) and had trouble with Borderlands 2 at 800x600.

also what is the diiference between gddr5 and ddr3 my mother board says ddr3 does this mean I would need to get a card with ddr3 memory or would a ddr5 work?

Gddr3 and gddr5 are gaming ram or vram. It is used in the graphics card for only graphics processing use. gddr5 id roughly twice as fast and effective than gddr3. Get a gpu with gddr5 vram for maximum performance. Are you getting a gpu for the computer?? Which model are you getting??

I picked up xfx r7 250x with 2g of ddr3 as it was a little cheaper 109 vs 139 but now im wondering if I should return it to best buy as my psu isn't equipped with the 6 pin wire to glug into the gpu I found this out when I got home and tried to install it didn't even bother with it just put the old gpu back in instead of potentially frying the new one now I don't know if I should upgrade the psu or get a gpu that doesn't require a fan

Pretty much any decent GPU uses GDDR5 Memory, There are some DX10 GDDR3 GPUs like the GTX 275 or HD 4850 which are still okay to use.
GDDR5 is quad Pumped Memory , The R7 250 1150MHz would be 4600MHz Effective , on a 128 Bit Interface/bus that gives us a total of 73.6GB/s Total Memory Bandwidth...
But you want to know why your seeing that DDR3 Spec on modern GPUs. ie HD 6670 1GB GDDR5 vs HD 6670 1GB DDR3, I asked this before and found that there is no good answer for why we see the DDR3 and not the GDDR3, It is still Video Memory being used with the DDR3 Spec, not system memory(DDR3).
Note: GPUs using DDR3 have limitations on the Speed and overall Bandwidth

You know as shitty as this card is, I actually have to use it for now and I've been running GTA V on all low settings and it's really smooth. 20 fps but it doesn't fluctuate all the time making it playable. I'm not even trolling. Though gta 4 did not want to cooperate.
