Hello! I see there are alot of others asking the same question. :)

- MSI (MS-7821)
- Intel Core i5-4670K @ 3.40GHz (4CPUs), ~3,4GHz
- 16GB DDR3 RAM

(Using GeForce GTX 770 atm)

What do you guys think?

Solution

That's still a compatible mobo, no problems there.

So, if you already have in mind the option of upgrading the monitor, go with the 1080. It will be much easier to get a 1440p with a 1080 than with a 1070.

Cheers

I believe it is, aside from the bottlenecking that the 4670k would incur.

I couldn't find your MS-7821 mobo. Correct me if i'm wrong, is it any of these?

If any of those is your current MOBO, you will absolutely have no problem at all relating to compatibility and bottleneck.

Your current CPU is still pretty decent and shan't present bottleneck unless in BF1 , but that's the game's fault for being badly optimized for CPU usage, or in very CPU-Heavy games.

Aside from that, you can rest easy with any other game.

What resolution are you playing on? The 1080 is recommended for 1440p or when in SLI 4k
The jump from the 770 to the 1080 will be huge, check this comparison:

tbh If I were you i'd go with a 1070 because on a 1920 x 1080 build 1080 is a little overkill thats just me. And itll save you a couple hundred

Well if you ever wanna to upgrade your monitor to a 1440p one, you won't have to think twice if you have a GTX 1080.
You can even keep your current one end get a 1440p to pair with it, dual monitor set-ups are really nice to use.

The GTX 1080 is overkill for just 1080p, that doesn't mean it's a bad think, it's just too much power for too little resolution.

If you don't plan on upgrading the monitor, the GTX 1070 should give you everything you need and save u a few bucks.

I'll probably upgrade to 1440p sooner or later.

The motherboard is Z87-S02 (MS-7821) btw. Some special edition thingy.

Also thanks for the awesome answers!
