I want to build my own Gaming Rig and I want to put 2 GTX 780's in it, so really my question is, are these graphics cards still good? and how future proof are they, are they soon to be noticeably outdated?

Solution
You would be lucky to get 10fps at the lowest settings on minecraft.

Seriously though, those two cards should last you a few years, but they will likely be outdated not by the gtx 9xx series, but the one after. Also, more and more games are using 3gb vram. However, with those two cards, you should still be able to get decent fps at highest settings in 3 years time

Edit: just read that you were intending on getting them, not that you already had them. In that case, I would say go for 2x gtx 970s, or even 980s if the price isn't too much
Yeah they are still very good , if you already have one then get the 2nd off newegg ! They have it for as little as $293 after mail-in Rebates which is a crazy price for a 780 .

The 780 will perform slightly slower than a GTX 970 however 2 of those will prove to be gaming beasts !!

That's a sick response , The 780 will still beat most card on the market with only 4-5 cards topping it. Is it good for gaming ? Definitely however not the best anymore.

Well, stating he's going to buy two of them, implies he wants top of the line for his price. As an enthusiast If I could chose between old but good, or new and best at around the same price point ( you stated the saving you CAN find for them) I'll always recommend the best you can get for your money opposed to settling for something "acceptable".

That being said, yes 780 SLI will run stuff for some time to come, however if you are driving a large display setup you will notice the VRAM limitations occasionally and in games where SLI profiles are not optimized you will see situations where you're down to running off one 780 where a single 980 would vastly out preform the sli setup you are under utilizing.

I'd still honestly recommend getting one 980 then right now, and a second one in the future, IF you really feel the need for it. Or wait until the 980 TI comes out and blows everything out of the water. ORRR at that point wait for the r9 390 XD. The game never ends.

His mere question was is it still good for gaming and the answer has to be yes , while I mis-read it like Fitz and I thought that he already owned one even then 2 780s are still very decent . Your answer was no as if he was to get 10 fps in each game.
