No. The GTX 980 directly replaces it with an avg of 10-30% performance increase for the same price, and even more then that when properly over clocked.
That's a sick response , The 780 will still beat most card on the market with only 4-5 cards topping it. Is it good for gaming ? Definitely however not the best anymore.
Well, stating he's going to buy two of them, implies he wants top of the line for his price. As an enthusiast If I could chose between old but good, or new and best at around the same price point ( you stated the saving you CAN find for them) I'll always recommend the best you can get for your money opposed to settling for something "acceptable".
That being said, yes 780 SLI will run stuff for some time to come, however if you are driving a large display setup you will notice the VRAM limitations occasionally and in games where SLI profiles are not optimized you will see situations where you're down to running off one 780 where a single 980 would vastly out preform the sli setup you are under utilizing.
