My current rig is an i7 3770K with the Gigabyte-Z77-HD4 mobo and 8GB RAM and a gigabyte GTX 770. I bought the 770 only a week ago and decided to return it. I paid 320 and unfortunately I am only getting 240 back because of restocking fees and such. I returned it because I am going to buy a 900 series card and was wondering which one to get. I am not running SLI or anything like that, at least not yet. I do plan on eventually upgrading to haswell or maybe the next gen when it is released. What I would like to know is with all of these new 900 series cards out of stock almost everywhere I look, are they really that good or was there just low supply? If I buy the 970, that leaves me enough money to upgrade my mobo and for a little extra get the new 4790K. would it be better to get the 970 and upgrade to haswell or is it even worth it to upgrade to haswell at all? If not, what is the main reason to go with the 980 over the 970? It seems to me like they can both run any game that is going to be published any time soon and they have the same amount of memory. My main concern is it looks like the newer games are relying more on the vram for uhd and I do have a 4k tv but according to the specs they both support the 4k resolution and i definitely want to be able to take advantage of that. So, would it be in best interest to get the 980 or to save the $200 and get the 970?
