Is the heatsink backplate required

I successfully bolted my CPU heatsink brackets to the motherboard, without using the backplate (because my mobo didn't come with the backplate) Is that a no no? Should I be worried about short circuiting? Should I diy a backplate out of paper or something?

Judging by online videos there are no backplates involved in the installation. I don't know of any stock fans that would require a backplate anyway.

I definitely had to bolt it to something, I just decided to get some nuts from a hardware store, and use those to fasten the screws through the bracket, So there is definitely a backplate (or nuts) required for the stock cooler.

If you dont have one, there is nothing for the screws to mount to, which means the two retention plastic pieces wont work correctly.
You can do a search on the AM3+ backplate and find a few places that sell them if you plan on keeping the stock cooler.

I've got it fastened with nuts on the screws, where the backplate should be, is that acceptable or no

I personally wouldnt run it, but if your temps are fine, and the cooler seems to be stuck on there go for it.
If you ever get a new cooler (Such as the 212 EVO) it comes with a new backplate, and is fairly similar in cost to the backplate itself.

That's actually the exact cooler I was planning on buying :lol:
But yeah, it's on there really good, It was a little tough to get the heatsink on too.
