Is the i5 4690k good for gaming???

Yes, it is. For gaming it is once of the best CPUs available.

Yes it is, but if you are getting a new system, CPU+motherboard, the CPU to get is the i5-6600k with a Z170 mobo. If this is an upgrade using your current mobo, it's considered the best for gaming of it's generation.
