Is the i7 5960x worth it if you have the money?

I thinking of upgradeing my pc to a x99 board and can't decide between i7 5930 and i7 5960. I've read a few review and 5960 seems a let down. I just wanted your perspective and opinions, some seem to have benchmarks under a 6-core cpu 5960 being 8 core. I'm also wondering if games can even utalize 8 core cpus yet or am I just reading it wrongly :/

In a couple years maybe. No need for anything more than 4790K at the moment for gaming.

Anything over an i7 4790K is overkill for games at the moment. Even then, only a moderate amount of titles will see a benefit with that over a high end i5.

If you start approaching 4k, heavy editing software or such then you would see some benefit, however for games you will see little to no performance once you go further than even an i7 4770.
