I am currently trying to decide on whether to build a new gaming rig or upgrade my current system. I have:
Intel - Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
Gigabyte - GA-Z77-D3H ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Crucial - Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card

I have a water cooled fan for my CPU along with 3 other fans in the case. I can give specifics if it make much difference but I'm seeing game performance issues online and that is what started me down this road. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

a regular non nvme sata/msata ssd will definitely speed things up. i used to do clean installs on hard drive change but this last time when i upgraded ssds i used a program to clone my drive and ive had no issues whatsoever. just upgrade your graphics card. the gtx670 was a great card in its day but it is showing its age. even something as inexpensive as an rx470/r570 would provide a significant performance boost. but ideally a gtx106 or rx480/580 would offer around double the performance.
ipc literally hasnt gone up much since ivy bridge. your performance issues is all due to your old gpu, even the cheapest $100 gtx 1050 beats it.
youre on liquid so i would recommend overclocking your cpu to 4.2ghz which should be ez for ivy (roughly 1.28v) and buy a gtx 1070.

would you recommend putting a mSATA on the mother board to help speed things up and if so how would i get windows from my hdd to the new drive or is that important

Definitely hang on to your setup a little longer if funds are an issue.
Upgrade the Graphics to solve your gaming issues.
I'm running an AMD FX8350 on a Gigabyte GA970 Gaming motherboard with 16Gb Kingston RAM and a GTX760 Hawk edition and my rig plays the latest Call of Duty WWII with ease. It plays it as well as my sister rig consisting of an Intel core i7 3770K, MSI-MS7798 mobo with a GTX1060 3Gb graphics card and 16Gb ADATA RAM.
Both are older setups now compared with modern day gaming rigs, however I can still play amongst the big boys when it comes to gaming.
I see no need to go and spend £800+ when a simple Graphics update of around £150 would do the trick and give another couple of years longevity to your current system

Can I also just add, none of my rigs are currently overclocked whatsoever at all.....and the Ivy Bridge is one of the best and easiest to achieve a power gain, so I will be looking into that in the near future too.
