Hi, Im building a new PC for my 13 year old son who's outgrown his old PC. He is into AAA gaming and Youtube streaming/Video editing, also im now teaching him Python programming.

So many X370 Motherboards to choose from, any helpful guidance would be most welcome.

Im thinking of going with MSI X370 XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM on sale at £146 (reduced from over £200). It has a lot of great features plus very good OC potential which we will take advantage of.

Parts List:
CPU: Ryzen 5 1600X
COOLER: Cryorig H7 49.0 CFM
MB: MSI X370 XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM ATX
MEM: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200
OS/SSD: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5 SSD for O/S only.
CASE: Cooler Master SIL-452-KKN1 ATX Mid Tower
PSU: Corsair TXM Gold 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX
Total cost circa £800.

We have a Gigabyte GTX 1060 Windforce OC 6GB GPU bought last year.

He will be looking to add a VR headset at some point in the next 2 years so MB must be VR ready. We will add another 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 when needed.
If any of the experienced systems builders could help us in the right direction that would be wonderful.

Thanks
M.

Hi Vapour,
I have not bought any of the parts yet, this is just my first shortlist which will need tweaking to find the best sweet spot between price and performance. The GPU we bought a year ago and used in an old PC this will go into the new Ryzen build its very good for what it does. We may go to a GTX1080 when the silly prices settle down but this wont happen for some time.
Cheers M.

Get 1700 or 2700 when it is out for extra 2 cores :) My suggestion:

Wow much thanks for the effort.
I really like the idea of the Ryzen 7 1700 as its only a £70 uplift, so will definitely look into this option.
I'm not keen on B350 boards though, prefer the extra's that the X370 range offers e.g. superior VRM's and 2 x M.2 ports. Intel LAN and superior sound with reduction in distortion.
With hindsight I think we will go for the O/S on a M.2 drive and instead use the Samsung Evo as a working drive for faster Video Editing.

Thanks again for your suggestions, I will tweak the build list and make a final decision in a few weeks time.

Cheers M.

Sure, if you like the extra features, I will suggest 2700 and X470 MB :) B350 is sufficient for decent overclocking. If you want to utilize the best VRM, go for better coolers like H100i v2 etc.

just saw some per-release prices for the 2700 and also shipping may start as early as Mid April this year. This makes the 2nd gen Ryzen CPUs worth a closer look. I like what Ive read so far on the specs and it might be a path that I will consider unless the price of the Ryzen 1700 goes through the floor then who knows?

Thanks Vapour you have given me a few things to think about. Five stars for your help.

Regards M.

Good luck :)
