Hi everyone. I have a serioud doubt about my actual pc's GPU replacement. It is a HP Compaq dc7100 cmt, PIV 3,2 Ghz, 3 GB RAM. Actually it has a GeForce GT220 1gb installed, and since I have a spare GT 740 from another pc, I wish to know if such replacement is a good idea, or a waste, or if it could cause trouble like excessive bottleneck or similar.
The psu is 500 watt one that is also the one that supplied energy to the pc from where the gt740 was taken, and uses a molex to 6 pin adaptor for powering the gt740.
EDIT: Thanks for all the replies!! 😀, anyway, someone told me to try it, being careful with power peaks coming from the PSU (the one I got it´s a cheap-noisy Powerline 500w), and I got it installed.
Some advices for those to want to do the same thing:
-It will occupy two slots :/
-You need to install Net Framework 4.0 (or higher) in order to install the right drivers.
😉
-Last driver version (2017) sometimes as reported of not being supported by the XP label test, this can be fixed installing the 2014 version of the drives.
-If, regardless of that warning, you decide to install the 2017, you will need to restart your PC at least two times (the first restart did not throw any results) before everything starts to work properly (nvidia control panel show an "unhandled exception..." before those two restarts, colors fo the textures in-game look weird, etc.).
-Make for it a pcb shield, it makes it look better and also it´ll be more protected. 😛
