Is the Nvidia GTX 760 for me?

I have an Intel i5-4670 processor, and I was thinking of getting an AMD Radeon 270 card but the prices are higher than they used to be. Since a certain model of Nvidia 760 is $237 right now, I feel like it is a better deal in comparison to the 270s. If I want to play games on the highest settings on one 1080p monitor with 60+ FPS, is the 760 too over the top for my purpose? What should I get between the Nvidia 660, 760, and AMD 270? Thanks!

Well it would depend on what games you are planing to play. Some of the new titles struggle to keep constant 60+ FPS even on higher tier graphics cards on the highest possible settings.

The GTX 760 will get you on SOME game, 60 FPS @ 1080p (but by lowering some setting like the AA or the resolution) you won't be able to play some titles at ultra.

The question will be then what are you looking to spend on a GPU? Cause most of us on here would say just go GTX 770 or higher if you really want some horse power and have the cash for it.

i would go for the 760, best for the buck right now. but don't expect it to be 60+ fps on high on every game you play.

The 760 is the best of the 3. Some games will give it a run for its money, but it would take it the best.

For most games realeased in 2014 I think that you will be running about 40-70 FPS on High settings but this will vary for game to game. This is a good card to use for casual gaming and is definatly worth every penny !

I'm interested in playing games like Tomb Raider and Assassin's Creed, and I was aiming on spending less than $200 for a graphics card, but for $230 the 760 is somewhat close. I was thinking the AMD 270 was okay for those games though, what do you think?

The 760 would be the better option. Both will run the games on high, the 760 just has more power.

Its a pretty good deal, I would recommend one without the stock blower cooler though.

IMO, that's a good enough deal. I bought reference cooler GTX 670's for the same reason...they're cheaper. The aftermarket coolers are definitely a lot nicer and more effective, but the stock Nvidia cooler these days is a hell of a lot better than it used to be. Mine are very quiet except under high load.

The way I see it, you would only fully realize the benefit of the aftermarket GTX 760 in a situation where you were able to keep a high load on it for a long time. That would heat it up to the point where the aftermarket card would be able to keep Turbo Boost active, but the reference card would have to step down.

Last question before I buy anything. Will the Nvidia 660 run Tomb Raider on high (maybe not ultra) 1080p with 60+ FPS? I would like to save $50 if it's not the biggest difference.

Trust me, you want the 670/760. Even the 660 Ti is no match for either card. Look on GPU Boss if you don't believe me.

If you get the GTX 660, be prepared to replace it within the next year or two. With the next generation of console games coming out, demands will be higher.
