Hey all,

So I currently have an i5 6600 and a gtx 970 build and am looking to upgrade my cpu. I mainly play csgo and occasionally play pubg. although it is smooth most of the time I do get stuttering sometimes.

I feel that my gtx 970 has some life left in it and am looking to upgrade my cpu to a ryzen 5 2600x and getting a new gpu later when I have more money. I was looking at the 3600 but at 270$ cad it's quite expensive for me. The x570 motherboards are also a lot more expensive than b450 mobos.

Fyi, I play at 144hz 1080p

My question is, is the 2600x a worthy upgrade from an i5 6600 non k? (Mainly for csgo) thanks in advance.

I'd stay with your i5 6600 if you just play CSGO, the Ryzen 5 2600X will maybe match your FPS or be lower due to slower single core performance. Either upgrade to an i7 7700 if you'd like to keep your motherboard, or upgrade to a Ryzen 5 3600 to get a drastic upgrade. With that CPU though I'd suggest upgrading from your GTX 970, that is actually getting onto it's last legs with only 3.5GB of VRAM even 1080p is going to be difficult to run newer games, an upgrade to a GTX 1660 Ti, RX 5700, or even a Vega 64/56 that's steeply discounted would be a very good upgrade to play CSGO.

I think it would do just fine. I am running a 2600x and run ultra 1440p on most games with 60fps + (with a 1070). The new cpus are better performers but hey if you get the 2600x with a b450 board you can still upgrade it in the future with a 3000 series cpu down the road with updated bios... maybe even the 4000 series when it comes if it is supported. but I asked about if I was now going to have to upgrade my 2600x soon and it was suggested to me to wait for the next round of ryzen, so like I said it will be a good cpu for you heh..

Thanks for the tips. My mobo sucks and 7700 prices even used are outrageous so not worth it. I think I'll get a 3600 and buy a b450. Someone in my area does bios updates for 20$ so that will save me a lot since x570 boards are very expensive.I have my 970 OC'd at +500 mhz memory and +120 mhz core clock so I think itll be fine. It's pretty much a 570 4gb which is a decent budget option but gets way better fps in csgo than a 570. I will have to wait a month or two to upgrade my gpu due to monetary reasons but am considering a 5700 although I might just get a used 1080.

Hey thanks for the suggested build. That mobo is around 165 here in canada and I'm on a tight budget. I'm looking at the asrock b450 pro4 which is around 100 and supports 3rd gen as per their website. Even with the extra 20 I spend this will save me money. Any thoughts? It seems to have good reviews too
