So I have a Ryzen 7 2700 for over 2 years now. I was wondering if it's a good time to upgrade now or the 2700 is still capable of most things. I mainly do gaming/streaming , that's one of the reasons I choose that CPU cause of the extra cores would help with streaming. But recently I switched to using the nvenc encoder for streaming so the CPU isn't actually encoding now. So would it be wise to upgrade to something newer and better for gaming or stick with the 2700 for a bit longer? Thank you

It can still do most things, of course it can. The question is, is it still enough for you. As stated above, you could upgrade to a Ryzen 5000 easily. A 5600X should still be quite a bit better. It depends on what you want to do, though.

If it's still doing what you want it to do and not leaving you frustrated then obviously it's still good. Upgrading to a 5600X or even 5700 might make a little bit of a difference but it's more of a personal choice if what you have is performing well enough.

If your interest is gaming and your budget is limited you might consider GPU upgrades first since those prices have been coming down quite a bit.

if you upgrade CPU your minimum FPS will rise, GPU will get utilised more there, if GPU already runs at 100%, then CPU upgrade wont improve anything

so in translation this means: low gpu usage = upgrade CPU, high gpu usage = upgrade GPU
if you feel your FPS are doing fine, no upgrade needed 😉
