Question Is the Ryzen 7 3800x really worth it?

So right now im considering buying one, i have 2060 and 16 gigs of 2400 ram(will upgrade later)

The only possible reason to get the 3800x is a chance at a better binned overclocking CPU, otherwise it's a waste of money over the 3700x with only a 100Mhz difference. That is only gonna be maybe 1-3fps in games.

^ I agree, I bought a 3700x instead of a 3800x and I am Very happy with that decision.
My 3700x performs sooo much better than my 2600 did.

The Wraith that comes with the 3800x does the job. You won't overclock much with it but it's a good cooler.

Is the 3800 worth it? Not really, the 3700x is great too.

The 3600x & 3800x have become much more interesting in the past 2 months since the prices have dropped. I've seen as low as a $30 premium for the 3800x and a $10 dollar premium for the 3600x. I'd happily pay that premium for either for the extra single core boost/ OC potential. At the launch price premium not so much.

I agree the price difference has to be overcome.

But if you consider yourself an 'enthusiast' you may appreciate that the 3800X is the best binned of consumer-class Ryzen silicon. That will afford you opportunities for all-core manual overclocking you can't really get in any other Ry3k CPU.
