[SOLVED] Is the Southbridge dead?

Hello, my dad gave me his old PC to "repair" because it was not recognizing the USB ports on the motherboard NOR the ones on the front of the tower, when i opened it, i found this old garbo p5g41-m lx3 with a dual core processor on it.

Everything looked fine but once i plugged the PSU i noticed that even when the PC was NOT on, the southbridge was heating crazy hot, it was so hot that it was dragging the heat to the other close component such as the SATA slots and some mosfets.

Now the PC actually boots (sometimes it was not recognizing the SATA at bios), but the USB ports are straight dead, so i was wondering if it has to do with the southbridge, Because i know these parts can get really hot but i have never seen a component get hot while the PC is off. So, is this motherboard long dead already, or is there a way to recover it, like, changing a mosfet or something like that?

I would scrap it. Are you even capable of replacing components? Do you have the proper soldering equipment?

Do you have the schematics?
If no scrap it

kinda, yeah. I'm trying to avoid scrapping it because finding a 775 ddr3 motherboard in 2021 sounds like a pain in the butt

You can't "fix" the motherboard. It is done.

"Dads old PC"....what are you wanting to do with it? Its just a box of ancient parts, some of them broken.

It is indeed ancient but also my father is a 60+ yrs old man, he only uses it to open facebook. So you know, i'm not going for a EPIC RYZEN 9 etc etc kind of setup. Guess i'll be buying a new office-grade mobo, ram and processor which i was trying to avoid at first place

At your likely price point, don't try to piecemeal a system together.

$300-$400 will get you a whole new system, Win 10 license included.

$200-$300 will get you a Chromebook laptop thing.

Assuming an Amazon or Newegg account, $400 and your existing monitor shows a wide range of systems.

don’t bother, you’ll need to replace so much it will be easier just to get an office refurb Optiplex on ebay:

That probably comes to a lot less than the components would, and will be a significant upgrade for your dad.
