Ok so I just got a fx8320 and I want to just make sure the stock cooler is good enough for it when it goes at 4ghz?
And another thing is the turbo 4ghz basicly hyper threading?

Solution
Yes the stock cooler is fine and it helps cooling the VRM if you use an inexpensive motherboard. Hyperthreading is Intel technology; 4 GHz is AMD Turbo Core technology.
4ghz is just the speed of the CPU. AMD Turbo Core Is The Same Thing As Intels Turbo Boost. If Cooling Permits, The CPU Will Automatically And Temporarily Overclock Itself When It Is Needed. Stock Cooler Is Junky And Loud And Doesn't Cool Well. Get A Cheap Cryo H7 or CM 212 Evo So It Doesnt Thermal Throttle Which It Will With Stock Cooler.

It 'just about' does the job as long as your case has good airflow & ambient temps are below 25c.

I would argue that 80%+ of amd fx owners use aftermarket cooling even if the above requirements are met simply because to the majority of people the noise levels from a 60mm fan running at 4000rpm are unacceptable.

Other than this NG members, I doubt 80% of AMD FX owners replace the stock fan (most wouldn't even dare to do it).

I've built quite a few amd systems, for myself as well as others and recently prefer an aftermarket cooler. To give you an idea, I have a box for an h60 I installed for someone recently, a v6 gt on my system, and an aftermarket cooler master just sitting until I need it.

Will the stock work at stock speed? Probably. Would I trust it? At stock speed, no overclocking. If you are overclocking, grab a host 212 evo. They are cheap enough and help a lot. I once worked on a system with an fx 6100 where the cpu had literally cooked over time due to the stock cooler. It was a kid's gaming pc. Installed a new cpu and 212 evo, solved a lot of issues.
