Is the surface worth it?

So my question is to all brilliant people that have optimized their PC for performance and budget (yes, that means you).

The surface book with all bells and whistles cost $2,600 dollars (before reduction for students, which I am one.) I've started working for an engineering firm where I use drafting programs like AutoCAD/SolidWorks to perform my work. I will be returning to school this fall and I was wondering if the surface book was worth the money?

The way I see it, you can make a great gaming/work PC for $800 (Not including the drafting programs). Is there a reason as to why I should spend $2,600 on a surface book? I think it's a great piece of machinery but too expensive unless there's something I'm not seeing.

Can someone help me clarify if getting a surfacebook will be worth it in the long run? Thank you so much.

no. I have an asus N55sL laptop designed for that sort of thing, and at new that was £700 (so like $1000 or under something like that) and that works just fine for AutoCAD. to be honest there are lots of other solutions available without paying that much money, just shop around :)

I kind of wanted to hear more of a discussion, but maybe there isn't one to be made. Either way, thank you DCactivity for your response. I'll stick with something cheaper then. Thank you! :D
