Hi, don't laugh, but i'm 13 and I had bought a b]prebuilt gaming rig last (i7 3770, gtx 660ti sc, 16gb corsair, phantom 410) year but my dad sold it and got a 27 inch top of the line imac which kind of made me mad, but I still was grateful and did not let him know I did not like it., Anyways, in my closet I had a dell isnpiron 530 (prepare to laugh) with a core 2 duo e4400 (xD), 6gb 800mhz ddr2, and a 250gb hard drive. Anyways, I got the rosewill ranger m micro atx case and a corsair cx430 and my friend for 20$ gave me a msi gt 630 4gb which was okay. The upgrade was succesful and now, I am upgrading under a tight budget, and i'm getting a new cpu, mobo, and new ram under 160$-170$ budget which I found some decent parts under. I need low profile ram for my case because the hard drive will interfere with the heatsink of corsair vengeance. I was thinking athlon x4 750k along with an msi FM2-A75MA-E35 and some low profile 4gb ram 1 module so I can later upgrade. Can I get some recommend parts with low profile ram? Is the gtx 660 good (I will get in June for my b-day), and also I know how to gpu overclock but my cpu, not so much :/. Would I need to adjust voltages to go up to 4.2 ghz, because by default out of the box it goes 3400 mhz to like 4000 (rounded) via something similar to intel turbo boost. Thanks, just some parts and my overclocking questions need to be answered.

Crucial makes low profile ram beyond the standard height ram. U should be able to overclock the 750k no prob to 4ghz, but that motherboard is not the best to overclock on.

Personally i would go for the fx 6300 as it can be found under $120 and is the best budget gaming cpu with six cores, and a asus m5a97 r2 or gigabyte 970-ud3/ud3p for overclocking.

The best video card would be the r9 270 or gtx 660 but for the cost if u can wait and get the gtx 760, u can get them for under $250 on sale and performs like a 670. Pricing the 650 ti boost is pretty good and the 270 i think i near the 7870 and under 7950.

I understand ur budget and going from picking the x4 to a slightly higher priced cpu, like the 6300 and a higher end motherboard to overclock on which is around $20 on the board or so, and since u already have a gt630 u can use it so that u can save enough to get a gtx 760 as it is the best for the pricing.

Overclocking i would ask in another thread at least around when u get the cpu, but quickly it does involve the voltage either being raised or lowered, matters on the overclock. It also either involves the front side bus (fsb) or multiplier to change the clock freq. the fsb changes the bus speed which effects the ram speeds, cpu clock, northbridge and i think hyper transport, where the multiplier just the cpu clock. Changing the fsb does work, its how i overclocked my x6 1055t to 3.7ghz and 8320 for a quick 4ghz as just multiplier didnt boot. The fsb can cause stability issues some times, so the reasoning for the multiplier being best.

Hey there! Thanks for responding! The msi comes with one click overclocking and maybe i'll just lock it at 4ghz, I don't think i'll need more than that. beyond that what kind of benefit would I get. I do some very light decoding and occasional 3d mod4eling via atuo cad, but nothing too intensive. They only programming I do is html/javascript/css (web development) and so don't need anything to good. Also some video rendering but that works fine on a core 2 duo, and the x4 will definitely see an improvement. I don't actually have the extra 50$ to spend out of my wallet :/ but around christmas next year or june 2015 I will sell these components and proably go for an i5 and a new case and a nice gigabyte/ asus/ msi mobo. I think these compoents seem solid, and the crucial ballistix seems very small and it'll fit perfectly! I read the dimensions and it is really really small which my case will enjoy. All of this will work fine with my cx 430 power supply right?

A high end gpu like the 660 or r9 270 will not run on a cx430. Would go for a 500 or 600 to be safe for upgrades and later it will run a single 6 or 8 pin pcie gpu like a 650 ti 7790 but not sure I have the modular cx430 with a he 5770 and x6 1st oc'd to 3.7ghz and a fx8320 To 4ghz no problem.

My friend has a reg cx430 with a stock 6300 and he 7750 which is Def not using all the psu.

Again the lower end boards may have over clocking features but doesn't mean it's good to over clock on. I personally wouldn't over clock on a 4+1 or 4+2 power phase like the ones u linked other than the Asus m5a97 r2. Again it will surely be worth it to go am3+ for over clocking and sheer performance. If u can't foot the extra money sure do it with the fm2 board. And if u can't go for the higher watt psu then go for the lower end gpu

The X4 will do fine and if u expect to upgrade later then I'd go with the 650 ti and x4 and board and don't overclock

Hey, what are your full specs on this build? The thing is that there's youtube videos and other posts on TomsHardware discussing this and the cx430 seems to run these cards fine. The specs states it delivers 32amps on the 12v rail and gtx 660 only needs 32amps the 12v rail. Also, the 660sc only actually uses 1 6pin connector, or so seems the picture on amazon. If it requires two connecters, I could just use a 4 pin molex t 6 pin pci-e (most gpu's requiring the 6 pin will come with this)

http://www.brightsideofnews.com/Data/2012_9_13/EVGA-GTX-660-SC-Potential-for-Power/FullCardFrontal_689.jpg
thats a picture of the 660 (look at the connector)

Also, the minimum for this card is a 450 watt, but considering the cx430 is 80+ bronze certified will run it just fine (and also the rest of my pcconsumes a pretty small amount of power)
I hope i'm not wrong though..

i wouldnt trust a lower watt psu for that even though it only requires the one 6 pin and 32amps on the 12v rail, it only has a single 12v rail and the other components must run too, it may work but it wouldnt last to long and it may blow enventually as it would be running at high load for a long time, would be safe and go lower end components for now or go higher end and wattage psu.

If it does use the 6 pin it will have the ability to use 150watts and the cpu will use 100watts for the x4 and 95watts for the 6300 and with an overclock will be higher so 250 ish giver or take a few just from the two components, then add hdds, fans, ram etc that doesnt use much it would theoretically run as it would be under 430watts, and actually just saw a review with the 660 and the whole system used 300watts with a extreme i7 while running crysis, so i guess with a lower power consuming cpu it would work, but i wouldnt feel the best using them together but just me lol.
