is the xeon x5450 better then a q9550 for 775 socket? and is 2gb of vram still viable for 1080p gaming?

so i have an p5q pro motherboard and i wana build a system to play some games but i can't decide which processor to pick between xeon x5450 vs Q9550 what do you think which is better?also are there any better xeons for 775 conversion? my gpu would probably be an r7 260x 2gb...yea im aware its a dead socket but i would really love to have a system like that, that can play most if not all games on 1080p.. would any of those two cpu's bottleneck that gpu?

I have a 750 Ti OC in an old machine that scored 4751 in that test and it performed well at 1080P with High or even Ultra settings in most modern games. You are going to be a fair bit below that with a r7 260x though.... but 2GB vram is fine for 1080P generally.

You will note the Xeon is about 4.4% higher than the Core2 Q9550.

Either CPU when paired with that GPU will likley perform adequately as long as you don't expect miracles. Depending on the game, there might be a slight CPU bottleneck, but not by much - as the GPU proposed is not that strong in the first place.

I would go for the E5450 which is basically a Q9650 - the most powerful you can get for that motherboard as it doesn't support Core2 Extreme.

My old system with a Q9650 (the same as a Xeon E5450) played most titles okay, but it struggled with frame-drops on the likes of Battlefield 4 and Battlefront but fine with racing games. I overclocked from 3.0GHz to ~4.3GHz. After that it was fine at 1080P, with some settings turned down depending on the game. But my GPU was a bit more powerful than what you propose.

You are therefore looking at ~30 fps I guess in most modern games. So consider the r7 260x as a bare minimum for 1080P and be prepared to turn down those graphics settings and maybe OC everything (CPU and GPU) if you want more playable framerates than that.

Yea i just noticed the e5450 ill get that one... i would go for something more powerfull but im making this pc to prove a point to a friend so it has to be cheap and play "next gen" games, i dont mind if the resolution is even at 720p or turning down some details i dont need 4k or stuff like that..the r7 260x 2gb version seems perffect for 1080p if i can find one (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCs5-kdvk2946BI5ukmOThsQ) im just hoping that the xeon will work nicely with it, ill try and clock it when i get some better cooler then stock one.

IMO that's the best way to upgrade a LGA775 - Xeon with LGA771 on that motherboard. I did it on a LGA775 MoBo and it was definitely worth it, used an X5470.

About 250-300 euro im not wiling to spend much more on such old hardware
i found an E5450 for 40e, 4gb of ddr2 ram are about 25e (already got 4gb inside) im just not sure where to find the 2gb version r7 260x but that should be about 100-120e maybe im not sure ill try some other card if i cant find it... i comapred it to a few curent gen 2gb cards and its faster then a lot of them got any ideas what card could be better for that money?... ill try and get a quality 500w power supply for about 40e well...as "quality" as it gets for that money .. something like that..

Try this. Here is a link to a 750 Ti for 115€. If you overclock it yourself (mod the Bios too maybe?) you'll get a lot more performance than a r7 260x.

I've got the MSI version in my other machine and I get a 3D Mark Score of 4751 boosting to 1460MHz....... that is a lot more performance than the average r7 260x.

With my overclocked Q9650 (it's the same as a Xeon E5450) you can set to High/Ultra at 1080P on most of the latest titles and expect playable framerates.

So an Xbox One killer and a match for any PS4!
