i've been looking for an upgrade to a dual core processor, right now i have a pentium 4 3.4 GHz. i found a dual core with a ppga478 socket: Pentium Processor T2060, but i'm worried that it doesn't have the power to play dayz. does anyone know of a dual core processor that fits a ppga478 socket?

No there are not any Dual Core CPU's for Socket 478. You will need a new mobo and CPU. I would consider a socket 1155 Mobo w/at least a Pentium 860 CPU.

$75 shipped!
Intel Pentium G860 Sandy Bridge 3.0GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80623G860

$65 Mobo
ASRock H77M LGA 1155 Intel H77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

And you'll need some RAM too....
$20 shipped!
Crucial Ballistix 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BLT4G3D1608DT1TX0

Intel actually made five different 478/479 pin sockets- Socket 479 (mPGA478A) for the PIII-M, Socket 478 (mPGA478B) for the Pentium 4, Socket 479 (mPGA478C) for the Pentium M, Socket M for the Core and early Core 2 laptop chips, and then Socket P for the later Core 2 laptop chips. The sockets all have 478 or 479 pin holes and are nearly identical in appearance but are electrically different and you can only use chips that match the socket exactly.

The Pentium T2060 is a Core Duo based part that works in a Socket M laptop. It is NOT compatible with your Socket 478 desktop even though the T2060 will physically fit in your desktop motherboard's socket. The Pentium 4 3.4 GHz you have is actually about the fastest chip you can get for a Socket 478 motherboard. If you want more performance you would need to get a newer motherboard that takes newer CPUs.
