Just a quick question ya'll, is there such a thing or software built into a router that can control the amount of data/bandwidth a guest user can have or use. Reason is i would like to open up the guest accounts on my router again but limit the bandwidth to where its just for browsing and not gaming or watching videos as that's what we on the regular use. Thanks again.

Nigelivery is correct, QOS can permit you to set cell phone on a lower priority to your gaming pc for example, but it does not cap bandwidth per device. mostly used for streaming reasons, QOS prioritizes videos over regular network things to keep film streaming smoothly on big HD TV

I have heard of Gargoyle, a flash firmware replacement for a limited number of home routers that would (I never tested it and please understand I know nothing about this program aside what I have read from web page) do what your looking for, limiting speeds/quota of amount of data...

I specifically bought my TP-Link router (WDR4300) about 2 years ago, for this feature.

It's not the fastest available, but you can set a maximum and a minimum bandwidth for guests and user groups. QOS priorites can also be set.

I think all TP-Link routers have this feature.
