Is there a compelling reason to dump our 8800GTS?

Have recently read here that with our old Core2 Duo running with no overclocking was probably a bottleneck for the 8800 series cards. Since putting the the old thing on our new Asus M4A87TD with Phenom II X4 965, wife says things are faster, smoother, etc. in all her mmorpg's (everything set to high)than with the old setup. So, while the thing is old, the 8800GTS 640MB seems to still be keeping up. Other than energy efficiency, is there a huge difference in game or video quality? The old thing even supports directX 11.

A 8800 GTS does NOT support DX11, and 640MB of VRAM is very little for today's games at resolutions higher than 720p. The 8800 was a jump in performance because she was likely using onboard video or a really old graphics card. If you don't need more graphics power then you don't need to buy a new card, but if you want to play more graphically demanding games like Crysis, BF3, Skyrim, and games to come out in the future, then you will want a new GPU.

no, performance jump is from replacing mobo, cpu and mem. Old sys was Core2 Duo E6400, same card on 680i-SLI board. And YES our 8800 GTS IS currently running directX 11 As stated, she mainly plays mmorpg's. This would include games such as WoW, Star Wars, and Rift. She does not play Crysis,
skyrim, etc.

No it doesn't.

DX11 games can run on DX10 or DX9 - that is the case with your 8800GTS.
