Is there a difference between cat 5 and 6 wall mounts. I want to connect my cat 6 cable into what i think might be a cat 5 wal

Solution
Will it slow down your connection....well...if you are using it for 10g it would. Cat6 cable can run 10g at short distances. Nobody really does that though since cat6a cost is not much more and is actually certified to run 10g. Cat6 cable is pretty much marketing hype, it does not run faster that cat5e and if you can afford equipment that has 10g ports you can pay the little extra to get cat6a.

You will get 1g connectivity using the cat5 connections.
If you attach CAT 6 to Cat 5/5e wiring it is not the same as CAT 6 end to end. The number of nodes connected to the same network has the greatest effect on overall throughput. Higher connect speeds are beneficial on networks with many nodes or high volume data transfers as network availability goes up. Additionally physical factors of the cable layout like cable length and number of connectors on your connection affect maximum connect speed.

Your connection will work, any noticeable affect on overall throughput requires evaluation after actual use.
