Please provide us with a link to your purchase site or the exact make and model number. THere is more to Dell Optiplex 990.

The mini-tower is a desktop computer. There is no difference between those two. The mini-atx or itx or others are usually referring to the size of the motherboard(9.6" x 9.6" if I'm not mistaken) within the desktop computer. Secondary to that is the...
Hi, if by standard mid tower, you should have more space than mini:

usually mini has space for 1-2 dvd drive and max 3 hard drive while a mid tower will have 3 or 4 dvd and 4 to 5 hard drive depending on brand and models.
The mid tower should have enough space for a bigger gpu no problem.

i am not talking about mid tower i am getting desktop casing
means the pc that is horizontally shaped

which size do you mean exactly:

OriginalPng

the smallest one ( DT )does not have a power supply remotely good enough for a 7970

nor is it "tall" enough either

only low profile cards will fit

i am talking about the pc which height is equal to the mini tower
i think it might be a ssf one

On some of the Dells I've seen all the tower models are 'stand up', such as mini towers, slim form factor towers, ultra slim form factors as well. When they say 'desktop' they usually mean that model that lays flat on your desk.

If you're looking to buy used so you can add a videocard, stay away from all the models except the largest tower they offer. The small sizes are the ones that have limited space and limited options in power supplies. The normal sized towers give you the best chance to use the components of your choice.

The mini-tower is a desktop computer. There is no difference between those two. The mini-atx or itx or others are usually referring to the size of the motherboard(9.6" x 9.6" if I'm not mistaken) within the desktop computer. Secondary to that is the size of the case. Mini-atx usually will have a smaller case. The size of the case isn't standard. There are mid-tower desktops that are unable to accept some air coolers due to their width. Other itx cases can accept the same cooler without issue. When Dell is thrown into the mix you get proprietary hardware such as the aforementioned power supply. Dell and HP are two of the biggest lovers of proprietary hardware not limited to PSUs and motherboards.

If you are considering upgrading in the future I suggest a different route.
