Is There a Noticeable Quality Increase From Newer Monitors?

Hey guys, I currently have a Samsung SyncMaster B2230.

My SyncMaster is coming on 7 years old now, and this Asus monitor seems to be only around 3 years old. Will I notice a good difference in quality?

As best I can tell they're both 1080p TN panels with the same response time. The Asus has an LED backlight, but aside from that they're pretty similar. If you want a noticeable difference, you'd probably want to change at least one spec. That could mean higher resolution, although that also means more demand on your GPU. A faster response time, you can find 1 ms these days. Or a different panel type, IPS/PLS, VA. That last tends to be a matter of personal choice as they have differing levels of color accuracy, black levels, viewing angles and contrast ratios, response times, and different tradoffs to get there.
