Is there a practical difference between sdd on sata 2 vs sata 3?

I have samsung evo 850 on sata 2 so if i get a new sata 3 board will i feel a difference between 280 ( sata 2) and 580 ( sata3) read speeds?

Yes you will feel it when you start doing multiple things for sure. startup and what not you may not see it too much but if you copy files from one SSD to another yes huge difference.

now if you were talking about Hard Drives then no. Even putting a SATA III hard drive on a SATA I controller you won't see much of a different or visa versa since most hard drives still don't do more than 100MB Read and write.
