I have an Alienware x51 r3 with an intel i5-6400 and a gtx 745. I am about to upgrade the graphics card because it is pretty weak and I was checking my specs in my settings and I noticed that my graphics card is clocked at 2.70 ghz. I don't have that much tech knowledge but I feel like it should be clocked a good bit higher?

You probably want to upgrade the graphics card. 1050GTX would be idea, or a 1060GTX model with a very lower power consumption. Some things to consider are:

- Your CPU is just fine for gaming. Still very good.
- Your case won't fit a large card like a monster 1080 GTX.
- Your power supply means you effectively only have around 300 watts to work with. The system wasn't really designed to a gaming beast if it has a 745. Adding a higher power card means you need more electricity which, and running without enough will cause big issues.

Also installing the newer card will be different than on a normal PC. This is a good video showing a card upgrade to a 1060.

Do you mean your CPU's going at 2.7 ghz? Because if your gtx 745 is at 2.7 ghz that would be pretty phenomenal as looking at nvidia's specs on this here its base clock is at around 1 ghz excluding overclocking I believe.
I'm going to go with you meaning the CPU in which there does not seem to be a problem, its untouched clock speed is 2.7 ghz. More info about that can be read here on Intel's website: https://ark.intel.com/products/88185/Intel-Core-i5-6400-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_30-GHz

Seems about right, 745 isn't good for gaming, like at all. I like how they make you spend $1,000 for a rig that has a potato for a GPU.

No problem, that's normal.

The amusing thing about intels CPUs stated base clock speed is there is almost no situation where it will ever clock at that speed. 2.7 is the base clock and that's what the BIOS will report, but if you use a tool like CPU-Z you will see that on idle/ low loads it will be clocking much lower and whenever loaded up it will turbo boost well beyond.
