Is there a reason to purchase a 2x 4gb ram kit compared to a 1x 8gb ram kit?

I have always chosen to purchase a single slot kit for my pc but never thought to think why others opt for a 2x 4gb kit instead of a single ram chip? Is there a reason for this?

Yes Dual channel is faster than a single RAM.
