Ok so i just got my pc that has just been updated to run games not at 10 fps :)
However my old monitor only has a VGA port is there a way to get HDMI in this case my pc has HDMI and DVI...

Solution
there are multiple versions of DVI. 5 to be exact.

the old one you had was a DVI-I which was both analog and digital in nature.

the new one you have is DVD-D whch is ONLY digital. which means your monitor can't get the analog VGA signal it needs from the output. the way to fix it is to get an "active" DVI-D to VGA adapter. an active one will convert the digital signal to an analog one your monitor can use. they are not as cheap as passive adapters but not very expensive either. here is one i have used multiple times in the past and it works fine...

Maybe you can help me understand something you see i have a DVI adapter that worked with my old MOBO issue is now it does not you see there are 4 pins around the flat pin but my new MOBO and GPU use a DVI adapter that does not have the 4 pins just the flat pin can you or someone explain why this is?
Is there like 2 kinds of DVI?
