Is there a way to make my Monitor play audio for both a PC and console

The title is a bit confusing, so I'll go into detail here. I cant really stand playing a console on my TV, since I have to angle my head up to see it. So, I use my right monitor to play both PC and console games. Seeing as how I have one set of speakers, I usually have to juggle between which port to put the speakers in. If I want to play my PC, I have to plug them into the back of my PC. If I want to play console, I have to take it out of the back of my PC and put it in my monitor. I just want to know if theres a way to make my PC recognize my monitor as having speakers so I can stop juggling.

Yes, my Console is connected to my monitor via a HDMI cable, and my PC is connected with a DVI.
My monitor is an ASUS, I cant discern what kind. It's 1920x1080 and 60hz, I know that much,

HDMI carries video and audio, but DVI only carries video. So if the computer is connected to the monitor with DVI that would be a problem. If it has an open HDMI port or an audio in port you could connect the computer to it that way. Or if the speakers have an auxiliary input, although many that do are configured to have the aux override so you'd still have to plug and unplug. Another option would be an HDMI switch to connect the PC and the Console to the monitor, you'd only have to press a button to change inputs. Some even come with remote controls but they cost a bit more.

Your monitor sounds lime an older ve series with 1 of HDMI/dvi/VGA

Next to the earphone socket is there also a black socket which is audio line in (there should be)

You should have got a 3.5mm to 3.5mm fly lead with the monitor.

Plug this from the PC to the audio in on the monitor.
Select dvi on the monitor , open the monitor onscreen menu.
There should be an option for sound or audio , under this there should be an option to select the audio in input.

Once done you should be able to plug the speakers into the monitor only & audio should switch automatically depending on whether dvi or HDMI (pc or console) is selected

Well, guess im forever stuck in a loop of unplugging and plugging. My video card only has one HDMI port, so for now im stumped. Oh well, it was just something I was hoping would be an easier fix. Thanks for the assistance, though.

Are you absolutely sure it doesn't have an input jack ??
Does it actually have speakers built in ??
If it does it should definitely 100% have a green 3.5mm audio input.

Is the model number not on the label on the back of the screen ??

Failing all this you can just buy a HDMI switcher as mentioned & run HDMI from both PC & console or a cheap 3.5mm audio switch & leave the cables as they are.
What country are you ?? I'll point you to products - should be less than $10/£10 for either option.

There's no inbuilt speakers on either monitor, infact my second monitor doesnt even have an audio jack at all (guess it relies on hdmi audio)

The main monitor is an ASUS VS238H-P (just found that out again)

I was under the impression that, given that both inputs a HDMI (because it carries audio), that the monitor would automatically detect which input to display if only one were on and output sound and video through it.

edit: I just saw the post about the monitor lacking speakers

I think his right monitor has a 3.5mm audio out, even though it lacks speakers. I've got the same feature on a 24 inch Samsung monitor. No audio input though. It's so you can connect an HDMI source with audio and pass it along (as analog) to your speakers. I think it was included primarily with Blu-Ray players in mind, since most lack anything except HDMI and Optical audio outs. Without the passthrough you'd have no way of getting any audio at all.

Youve confused me now mate with talk of 2 monitors ??

You are only talking about using the ASUS VS238H-P for both pc & console & want to stop having to constantly remove/replug the speaker 3.5mm plug depending on what youre using ??

If so yes I see the problem because that screen only has hdmi audio passthrough to the headphone socket.
What your speaker set exactly ?? Does it only have that singular 3.5mm input jack & no phono inputs anywhere??

There are plenty of options, a cheap manual one is just to buy a dirt cheap headphone splitter to plug multiuple cables manually still but it will stop wear & tear on the monitor & pc audio jacks (because constant removal & replugging will surely damage them eventually) & you wont be reaching behind stuff all the time

Another option is a switched splitter with a button

the best option imo is a auto/manual hdmi switcher - replace your current pc dvd cable with a hdmi one aswell & youll be good & pretty much automatic switching (If you have both sources switched on you will have to use the button on the switcher to select input)
