Is there a way to utilize inbuilt GPU in conjunction with a dedicated GPU?

I have a dedicated graphics card (GTX 660) and my processor (Intel i5) has onboard Intel HD GPU. Does using the dedicated GPU tacitly mean that the internal GPU is pretty much a vestigial organ or are there scenarios where it can be used for specific tasks or in conjunction with the dedicated GPU?

Not with that, no. With AMD APU's, though, you can with an R7 GPU. For example, the A10-7850K can crossfire with an R7 260X.

with the onboard gpu you can turn it on and run a monitor on it.

there mvp software and some games they can bond the intel and the other gpu together to get higher frame rates.

The a10 7850k can only run in dual graphics with a R7 240 or a r7 250.

I have seen otherwise on some reviews, but I guess that may be right. Guess it has to have less Shaders and cores?
