Is there any advantage to using a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter instead of DSUB?

I have a Thinkpad W510 which has multiple DisplayPorts. The new LCD panel I just bought has DSUB or multiple HDMI ports. I don't have a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so I just connected it via the DSUB connector. It works fine, image is very clear, it sizes it correctly for the screen.

Is there any advantages in acquiring the adapter? I will never watch high-def movies on this laptop, it is my work machine.

The main benefit of going digital is that you eliminate any possible pixel noise and jitter from the ADC on the video card and DAC on the LCD by eliminating the analog conversions altogether. As long as your LCD manages to sync perfectly with the VGA signal then it does not matter much.

Thanks for the answers. For digital audio, it is not a worry, speakers embedded in LCD panels are generally not worth writing home about. I won't be running the LCD above 1920*1080 so I will just stick with DSUB.

No pixel noise that I can see, but that was interesting. If I start to see screen artifacts, I'll buy the adapter.
